Ex Nihilo: The Truth About Money

A Cobden Centre documentary film that was premiered in the UK Parliament by Lord Daniel Hannan – exposes the fundamental flaws at the heart of our monetary system that drive many of the biggest economic and political problems of our time: soaring house prices, rising inequality, inflation and the increased cost of living, and unsustainable debt. How did we get here and more crucially, how do we solve it?

Steve Baker MP appears alongside Lord Daniel Hannan of Kingsclere, Mark Littlewood, Eamonn Butler and other well-known economic commentators, academics, former Central Bank officials, investors, and members of the public to look at the process of money creation itself. From the creation of money “out of thin air” by commercial banks to central banks like the Bank of England printing vast quantities of money, Ex Nihilo explores how something that most people never think about – how money is created – leads to such negative social and economic consequences. The film traces the roots of the current monetary system, how it benefits those near its centre, and how we can reform the monetary system to the benefit of all.

In the UK Parliament, alongside the premiere of Ex Nihilo: The Truth About Money, the Honest Money Initiative was launched to campaign for a fairer monetary system.
